The Canadian Christian Theological Seminary (CCTS) recognizes that the Kingdom of God has been advanced not only through formal academic achievement, but also through the faithful, sacrificial, and enduring service of seasoned Gospel ministers. Across decades of ministry, many leaders have labored in preaching, discipleship, pastoral care, missions, church planting, and spiritual formation—often without the opportunity to pursue extended formal theological education. Their lives stand as living testimonies of applied theology, marked by perseverance, spiritual maturity, and measurable Kingdom impact.
In light of these contributions, CCTS offers honorary doctoral degrees as a means of recognizing distinguished service in Christian ministry. These honorary degrees are not earned through traditional academic coursework, but are conferred in acknowledgment of a lifetime of faithful ministry, leadership, and influence within the Body of Christ. Consideration is given to the breadth and depth of an individual’s ministry, including years of service, evidence of pastoral leadership, involvement in missions (local and global), church planting initiatives, and the development of others in ministry.
While many recipients may also possess prior theological or ministry-related education, the honorary degree specifically celebrates the integration of knowledge with lived experience. It affirms that theological truth, when faithfully practiced over time, produces fruit that extends far beyond the classroom. This recognition serves not only to honor the individual but also to inspire future generations of ministers to pursue both spiritual depth and practical obedience in their calling.
The conferral of an honorary doctorate by CCTS is therefore both a celebration and a formal acknowledgment of Kingdom contribution. It reflects our institution’s commitment to honoring those who have demonstrated sustained excellence, integrity, and impact in ministry. Through this offering, we affirm that a life poured out in service to Christ and His Church is worthy of recognition, gratitude, and honor.
